Monday September 15th Health Action will look at the New WTO Rules on the Generic Manufacture of Life Saving Drugs in Poor Countries and the UN General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS |
Monday August 4th: Natalie Burnham will discuss female genital cutting with Molly Melching, founder and director of Tostan, a Senegalese based health and hygene organization. More information can be found at www.tostan.org.Tostan's program was critical to the dramatic and unprecidented decision by 282 villages....with an average population of 800...to declare publicly that they were abandoning female genital cutting, a practice tightly woven into the fabric of their culture many generations ago. Tostan anticipates that many additional communities will make public declarations of abandonment before the end of 2000. The men and women pledging not to have their daughters and granddaughters cut are making this decision of their own free will and because they truly understand it is in their best interest. |
