Host Bob Lederer explores the latest chapter in the controversy over whether childhood vaccines may be a contributing factor to the rising rates of autism. Despite adamant denials by medical establishment figures and recent adverse court decisions, the evidence continues to mount that one of at least three theories - the mercury-containing thimerosal additive, reactions to introduction of live viruses, and overstimulation of the immune system - may combine with genetic variations in some children to become key factors in the onset of the disease. And a determined movement led by parents of children with autism is gaining more victories in generating the research that will provide answers.
Bob interviews investigative journalist David Kirby, author of the award-winning book Evidence of Harm: Mercury In Vaccines and the Autism Epidemic: A Medical Controversy (St. Martin's, 2005).
